Objectives of the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP)

The BIP is hosted by Varna University of Management, Bulgaria and is targeted at administrative and academic staff members of higher education institutions from EU Member States and third countries associated to the Programme, who are interested and motivated to build leadership capacities and to develop their change management skill sets. The BIP is designed to provide the staff members with a good theoretical and practical knowledge of leadership and change management in academic settings. Participating staff members will get acquainted with different methods for motivating employees, leading teams, and incorporating change across campus.

Learning outcomes of the BIP

Upon completion of the module participating staff members will be able to:

  • Apply key concepts in leadership and motivation
  • Apply appropriate change management strategies at the university
  • Reflect critically upon practice and adapt that practice to a variety of contexts and challenges.

Indicative content

  1. BIP will be divided into two parts, namely an in-person intensive programme and an online component. The following indicative topics will be covered:

    • Exploring different concepts and characteristics of effective leadership
    • Understanding how leadership differs from management
    • Considering the importance of leading-up and the way forward
    • Understanding the challenges and the need for inclusive leadership and the specific methods of engagement
    • What is change management and why it is important
    • Types of organisational change
    • Change management models
    • A manager’s role in organisational change
    • Challenges of implementing organisational changes
    • Leadership and change management across different cultures.

Tentative timeframe

Physical component: 9 – 13 July 2024; Agenda

Virtual component: 18 – 19 July 2024

BIP participants’ profile

Staff members to take part in the BIP:

  • are employees of higher education institutions from EU Member States and third countries associated to the Programme
  • have applied for participation in the BIP and have been granted an approval by their home institution to receive a grant for Erasmus+ staff mobility for training
  • have English language proficiency corresponding to at least level B1.

Application process

  • BIP participants must apply at their home institutions for an Erasmus+ KA131 BIP related grant for staff mobility for training (please contact the International Relations Office of your home institutions)
  • The home institution nominates its candidate(s) – home institutions are encouraged to have an internal call
  • The candidates can show interest in the BIP and are encouraged to establish contact with VUM Mobility Team (erasmus@vumk.eu) for any questions, support or invitation letters, necessary for applying for the grant at the home institution
  • Deadline for nominations of candidates by their home institutions to VUM: 21st June 2024
  • Application Form duly filled out by the participating staff member and signed by him/ her as well as by the sending institution is to be sent to erasmus@vumk.eu by 21st June 2024 at the latest.
