Summer is a great time to get out of your comfort zone and gain meaningful learning experiences. The Varna University of Management students make the most of this time, and many of them use the opportunity to conduct their summer internships in different European countries, thanks to the support of the Erasmus+ programme. In the lines below, we are sharing our the thoughts of our students’, who are currently conducting their summer placements at Numo Ierapetra Beach Resort Crete, Curio Collection by Hilton.
Artur Popov, 1st year student in the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts programme, shares, “I am doing an internship as a cook at a hotel in Crete, Greece. The first week was preparatory, chef and sous chef explained to me how to work in different parts of the kitchen. At the moment, after 1.5 months of work, I am a full-fledged participant in the workflow. I am glad that I chose this place for an internship, and I am grateful for the support I receive at all stages.”
His colleague at the same programme and the hotel, Oleksandr Hoviada, adds, “I am enjoying every day working with professionals from all over Europe, learning and perfecting new techniques for cooking dishes and desserts, as well as systematically learning the structure of the hotel and the kitchen in general. It’s very hot here, but it doesn’t feel that way when you work with a marvellous team who are ready to support and advise you at any time!”
Besides programme-specific skills, during their mobilities, students also gain a number of transversal ones. Such is the example of Ilya Koveshnikov, a first-year International Business Management programme student who states, “My internship as a waiter at Numo Ierapetra Beach Resort Crete is very rewarding. I have gained a lot of practical experience and improved my customer service skills with the help of the supportive team there.”
